Step 1: Prepare the launcher

It is recommended to use PrismLauncher as the launcher. Using other launchers may cause issues such as abnormal resource loading and the modpack's modifications to vanilla item recipes not taking effect.

Tip: If you want to play offline without a legitimate account, you can use this version:Diegiwg/PrismLauncher

Step 2: Download and import the modpack

  1. Go to Releases page to download GregTech.Odyssey-[version number].zip;

  2. Launch Prism Launcher and click “Add Instance” in the upper-left corner;

  3. Select “Import” on the left, choose the downloaded zip file, and confirm.

Step 3: Configure Java and Memory

Note: GTO must use Java 25 to run. Do not use other versions of Java. The required Java version may change in the future; please refer to the instructions on this page.

After selecting an instance, click "Edit" on the right.

Step 4: Select Game Difficulty

Game difficulty can be selected directly when creating a new world, or via Main Menu → MOD → Search GTOCore → Config → Gameplay → Game Difficulty to configure it (after changes, you mustrestart the gamefor the changes to take effect). For differences between difficulties, see:Difficulty Features Guide.

Note: The difficulty of a save is locked when it is created and cannot be changed afterward. Please determine the desired difficulty before creating the world; changing the difficulty setting afterward only affects newly created worlds.

Mod Notes

  • During installation, you can select some optional mods; for details, see Optional Mods Introduction · gtowiki.

  • By default, the server installs all optional mods; server owners can add or remove them as needed by referring to the optional mods list.

Note

  • Do not install the I18N mod. This mod will overwrite the modpack's built-in Chinese localization resources, causing translation issues.

  • Do not install additional AE2 add-on mods. This modpack uses a self-maintained AE2 branch and is highly likely to be incompatible with mainstream AE2 add-on mods.

II. Updates

Description: When updating, you should create a new instance first, then copy your personal data from the old instance to the new instance. Do not directly extract the new version over the old instance. After copying is complete, leave the old instance as is; it can be used directly as a backup. Do not delete it until you have confirmed that the new instance runs normally.

  1. Import new version
  2. Open instance folder
  3. Copy personal data
  4. Launch and check

Step 1: Install the new version

Following the second and third steps in "1. Installation", import the new version modpackas a new instance, and complete the Java and memory settings.Do not delete the old instance, as it will be retained as a backup.

Step 2: Open the old and new instance folders

Select the new and old instances respectively, click "Instance Folder" on the right, and enter the minecraft folder (in some instances named .minecraft). The files listed below are all located in this directory.

Tip: When using launchers such as PCL and HMCL with version isolation enabled, the game directory is .minecraft/versions/<实例名>/, not .minecraft root directory.

Step 3: Copy personal data

Copy the following folders and files from the old instance to the same locations in the new instance. When encountering files with the same name, selectOverwrite; items that do not exist in the old instance can be skipped directly.

Note: Do not copy mods folder. New versions of mods may include upgrades, additions, and removals; copying the old mods folder will cause duplicate mods or version mismatches, preventing the game from starting. If you have added mods yourself, please place the corresponding jar files separately into the new instance's mods folder.

Tip: Copy config will overwrite the new version's built-in configuration with the old configuration. If after updating you find that the changes in the update notes have not taken effect, or if issues appear that did not exist in the old version, you can first config restore it to the content included with the new version and then try again.

Step 4: Start and Check

Start the new instance, confirm that the save can be entered normally and that the map and settings have been preserved, then delete the old instance as needed.

Note:The difficulty of an existing save is locked when it is created; updating the modpack or changing difficulty settings will not change the difficulty of an existing save.
